The FLOW Aquatics Starfish Swim Team is designed to be a "pre-team" program.  For children who have developed an interest in competitive swimming or just swimming for exercise, the Starfish Swim Team provides an opportunity to learn training and racing techniques.  The goal is to increase fitness and endurance levels while introducing the sport of competitive swimming to individuals who are learning or improving strokes.

Workouts currently last 45 minutes due to pool time constraints.  In the future (at our new facility), they will last approximately 1 hour.  They contain stroke development drills, sprinting and racing, interval training, endurance sets, and instruction in swim team terminology and technique.  Currently Swim Team workouts are limited to 8 children per "class."  As we move into our new facility there we will be able to have more kids per workout due to increased pool space and availability.

Friday Night Races - Swim Meets

Once a session, one Friday close to the end of the session, we will hold our Friday Night Races (or Swim Meet).  Currently this just consists our our students who are participating in our Swim Team and advanced Stroke School stages.  In the future we may invite swimmers from other swim programs to practice against.  Regardless of who is swimming, these meets focus on improving skills and not winning or loosing.  Meet participation will be optional for the students.

Students will be taught about heat and lane assignments, whistle blasts, heat sheets, the timing system, etc.  Swim meets will be used as a learning opportunity so that swimming become comfortable with the meeting setting should they ever wish to move on to a more competitive swim team.  Students will be taught the competitive swimming rules during class time.  They will not be disqualified, but rather "reminded" of the proper swimming technique.

Swimmers will be awarded with meet medals, heat winner, and best technique ribbons.  As the Friday Night Races progress, we will start implementing "Star Swimmer" and "Personal Best Time" Awards.  This will be a time to have LOTS of FUN in a comfortable, friendly and supportive environment.
